How to sublimate a Linen Cushion Cover

Sublimation Linen Cushion Cover Blank

Sublimating a linen cushion cover can give you beautiful, long-lasting results — but linen needs a bit of special handling because it’s not a polyester-based fabric. Here’s a full step-by-step guide to help you do it right 👇

What You’ll Need

  • Blank linen cushion cover (ideally a poly-linen blend — 40%+ polyester is best for vibrant results)

  • Sublimation printer with sublimation ink

  • Sublimation paper (A4 or A3, depending on your design)

  • Heat press (not an iron)

  • Heat-resistant tape

  • Teflon sheet or parchment paper

  • Lint roller

Step 1: Prepare Your Design

  1. Create or import your design into your design software (e.g. Canva, Photoshop, or Silhouette Studio).

  2. Mirror (flip horizontally) your design before printing.

  3. Print it on sublimation paper using sublimation ink.

Step 2: Prep the Cushion Cover

  1. Pre-press the cover for 5–10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.

  2. Use a lint roller to remove any dust or fibers — these can cause small white spots in your print.

  3. If it’s a poly-linen blend, check the tag for polyester percentage (the higher, the more vibrant the result).

Step 3: Position the Design

  1. If you wish you can place protective paper inside the cover so the ink doesn’t bleed through. Our cushion covers are thick so they should not bleed through.

  2. Align your printed design face-down on the cushion cover.

  3. Secure the edges with heat-resistant tape to prevent shifting.

Step 4: Pressing Settings

Here’s a general guide — but always test first, as linen varies:

Setting Value
Temperature 180°C
Time 120 seconds
Pressure Medium

Tips:

  • Place a Teflon sheet or parchment paper on top to protect the press.

  • Don’t move the press once closed — any shift will blur the design.

Step 5: Finishing Up

  1. After pressing, lift carefully and peel the paper hot (right away).

  2. Let the cover cool flat to avoid warping.

  3. Admire your finished cushion cover!

Extra Tips

  • Avoid seams and zips under the press — use a pressing pillow to even the surface.
