How to Sublimate an A4 Chopping Board

Sublimation chopping boards are one of the most popular personalised homeware products, offering vibrant, full-colour prints on a practical everyday item. Whether you're creating gifts, personalised kitchen accessories or products to sell, an A4 textured chopping board is an excellent blank for producing professional-quality results.

In this guide, we'll take you through the basic sublimation process to help you achieve a crisp, vibrant finish.

Glass sublimation chopping boards are a fantastic way to create personalised gifts, kitchen accessories and promotional products. With their durable toughened glass construction and premium sublimation coating, they produce vibrant, full-colour prints with excellent detail.

Follow our simple guide below to achieve the best possible results when sublimating your A4 textured chopping board.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, you'll need:

Step 1 – Print Your Design

Unlike many sublimation blanks, your design should be printed onto the back of the chopping board.

Do not mirror your image before printing, as the design is viewed through the glass from the front once pressed.

Step 2 – Position the Transfer

Place your printed transfer onto the back of the chopping board and secure it with heat-resistant tape to prevent any movement during pressing.

Using heat-resistant tape helps eliminate ghosting and ensures a crisp transfer.

Step 3 – Prepare Your Heat Press

Set your heat press to:

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Time: 300 seconds
  • Pressure: Light

Please note that these settings are provided as a guide only. Every heat press performs slightly differently, so you may need to make small adjustments to achieve the best results.

Step 4 – Press the Chopping Board

Place protective paper above and below the chopping board before pressing.

Press using:

  • 200°C
  • 300 seconds
  • Light pressure

Maintaining even pressure across the entire board will help produce vibrant colours and a sharp, consistent image.

Step 5 – Remove & Cool

Once the press has finished, carefully remove the chopping board using heat-resistant gloves or an oven glove, as the glass will be extremely hot.

Allow the chopping board to cool completely on a heat-resistant surface.

Once cooled, attach the supplied rubber feet to the underside of the board to provide grip and help protect work surfaces.

Top Tips for the Best Results

  • Print onto the back of the chopping board.
  • Do not mirror your design.
  • Use heat-resistant tape to secure the transfer paper.
  • Always use protective paper inside your heat press.
  • Wear heat-resistant gloves when removing the board from the press.
  • Fit the rubber feet only after the chopping board has completely cooled.
  • Test your settings before starting larger production runs.
